I was particularly unimpressed with Hyperledger Foundation, which cost the founding board members $0.5M to join & thousands a year to be a member, but even today is expecting companies to volunteer time to work on better cryptographic libraries, much less pay for formal review.

We also need much better practices of cryptographic review, including funding for those reviews. Asking for semi-volunteer academic or open-source peer review is insufficient.
