Think of DIDs as personal trust anchors—that & some rooted merkle trees for proof of existence is all that I’d like to see on blockchains.
Anyone can propose a DID method. Mine looks like did:btcr:tx1-rjk0-u5ng-4jsf-mc which is transaction #2205 of block #466793 of main chain.

The public key in that transaction is the initial control key for the DID, only valid as long as the 1st txout is unspent (the DID “tip”).
If the tip is spent the DID is revoked, unless there is a signed object pointed to on the op_return spending it, then it is a key rotation.
Other DID methods, such as uPort for Ethereum point to a contract.

It essentially is the same, but the key in tx is signed by the block miner, it is decentralized, distributed widely & censorship resistant.
In your example both your trusted authority and your key server are centralized, not distributed widely, and both can censor.
Secured by a $40B bug bounty! If you don’t like Bitcoin, do Ethereum DID, a public permissioned Blockchain like Sovrin, or roll your own.
I’ll put my DID on whatever has currently strongest security, which for me now is Bitcoin. But with proof-of-existence now I can move later.
No, as I have many more people I collaborate with that would prefer to trust Bitcoin than your centralized DID key srvc, but your choice :-)

You have to spend to post the transaction w/ your public key. The tip is the first txout with a new address (a hash). The tip is in UTXO.
We are working on specifying a PGP-based DID method, but you can’t rotate keys as easily as the did:btcr method.
I don’t depend on Bitcoin miners. I only require one of the currently 6391 bitcoin nodes to have my transaction history.

No, I don’t have to rely on miners for my old transactions, only nodes. However, miners are necessary for revoking a DID or rotating a key.
