Yes, satellite uplink is expensive, but a Bitcoin transaction is only about 200 bytes, or about US$0.02. Worth it for censorship resistance.

We are working on that. Increasing bandwidth using two satellites. Tx are about 200 bytes so can send SMS. And two-way is on roadmap.
